Photo Encaustic Art
Susan's encaustic work combines contemporary digital imagery with the ancient art of encaustic wax. Encaustic wax dates back to at least the 5th century BCE, when shipbuilders coated the bottoms of their ships to protect them, sometimes using color for design.
Embracing this intersection of the past and present, she carefully chooses photos and arranges their transformation by infusing them into the warm, fragrant encaustic medium.
Heat melds the image and wax, producing a unique art form that transcends temporal boundaries. Then, she deliberately creates a textured interplay to summon the tactile senses.
This is photo encaustic art— a dance where past and present hint upon the essence of time.
