About Susan
Susan Leith is a professional photographer who moved to Chicago in 2017. Susan retired from teaching photography at California State University for 17 years. Susan has combined her photographic and artistic skills into the realm of Photo Encaustic art – a combination of photography, etching and painting captured in encaustic wax. Susan’s subject matter covers portraits to rainy traffic jams to the lifecycle of sunflowers.
Susan is honored to have her work displayed in the permanent collection at the Encaustic Art Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and she recently won an honorable mention in their juried competition, Joy. Susan has found that mastering the medium of Encaustic art is challenging, and to help other artists who might be interested, Susan wrote a book and created YouTube videos to explain the technique. Susan is also honored to have her photo juried into the show ‘Girlfriends’ at the Woman Made Gallery.
